There is a ton of information at our disposal. With the expansive world wide web, I feel as though my marketing dollars drain and I really don't understand if I'm reaching my target audience. I decided to research a few of those "deal" companies that are hot right now to see if that would be a beneficial means to market. -well it is. Buy With Me for instance, is like gauraunteed advertising. They run a promotion that you build with their sales team, for one week reaching tens of thousands of people. Some people will be intrigued and purchase the deal, some won't, but your ad is being seen. The merchant has nothing to lose. 2 weeks after the deal closes, Buy With Me cuts a check for the merchant's agreed upon percentage, and the the merch has to manage their booked up calendar! -it's win win!!

Usually my photo-energy is taken up in a shooting a job or a project, and I rarely just take pictures for fun anymore. So last evening I took my dog and camera for a walk and was mystified by this beautiful scene from Buena Vista Park as the sun was setting..

I also revisited a place that inspired me to make a picture a couple years ago about a girl saying goodbye to religion. There's something about this place: a rickety old church that hundreds of people pass everyday as they take the train to and from.. How often it changes from quiet and calm to busy and transit.. the way these trees have been blown crooked by a lifetime of wind.. It captivates me. I've enjoyed many a cup of coffee sitting here watching how this area changes throughout the days and nights.

And this is the image I created back in december 09 that was inspired by this place:

I have been under a rock lately working on this new project with Dawson-Clinton General Contractors shooting 2 luxury condos they've just finished developing. 6000 square feet of the finest in comtemporary architectural detail and design.

Only took three days to shoot, an amazing team, 6 hours in editing, a ton of coffee and batteries.. and that's a wrap! These are some of my favorites. thanks for checking in!

Happy New Year! There is an amazing benefit hosted by Visual AIDS tonight in the Chelsea neighborhood in NYC called Postcards From the Edge.

Postcards From the Edge is a Visual AIDS benefit show and sale of original, postcard-sized works on paper by established and emerging artists. All works are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The works are signed on the back and exhibited so the artists' signatures cannot be seen. While buyers receive a list of all participating artists, they don't know who created which piece until purchased. All proceeds support the programs of Visual AIDS.

I was asked by the Reeves Gallery to participate this year and I contributed this image, Visitor below.

I was recently honored an Inspiration Award for the Peace Project initiative sponsored by The Whole 9.

The Peace Project is an international art
competition and exhibition that connects peacemakers
worldwide and brings to light our collective vision of Peace.
Through The Peace Project we seek to change the world.

My image "Peace" was selected among 150 other artworks from around the world for the exhibition.

Over 700 pieces were submitted from nearly every state in the US and Canada, and from over 30 countries around the world! Check out some of the other artists that were selected, very talented work.

new architectural work

High Dynamic Range photography is becoming more and more a viable option these days for commercial applications. To me, in a house with glass walls -it seems the only way to capture the dynamic textures, architectural features and sense of space in this beautifully remodeled Palo Alto home without tons of glare (well and a polarizer). Here are some shots from a recent shoot with a very talented contracting company based in San Francisco, Dawson and Clinton. I am really looking forward to our next shoot guys, I love your style!

Stuck In Customs is a great resource to introduce yourself to HDR photography, if you haven't already done so. I think the trick is to keep it looking "real", which comes with practice ;)

It's amazing to me that I can shoot a white tiled wall and be able to capture so much color. The blue light from the opposing window mixed with the orange glow from tungsten lights - advancements in HDR capture more than the eye can see!

Spring / summer is the most popular time of year for love-birds to tie the knot! I've been lucky enough to stay busy during this season.. SO busy that I haven't had the usual time to keep my blog updated. well I'm making up for that this week.

This has been a great summer for trying new things. New techniques like this one with a digitally converted infrared camera capture, new creative collaborations, new places and people.. I've recently decided that I don't just like, but LOVE shooting weddings! Please check out Eric Guarisco's work at North Point Photography Studio here in SF. He's a really great photographer and I'm happy to join his team!

Celebrated Chefs is an exciting program designed to raise money for non-profit organizations all year long. Participating restaurants donate 5% of your dining bill to your designated cause. Currently, Celebrated Chefs has taken over Seattle, with the SF, Chicago and DC markets coming soon. Dan Schrotter, owner and chef of Palio d'asti was selected as one of San Francisco's Celebrated Chefs.

I took this picture of Dan last year when I was doing some interior and food photography for his restaurant. It will be published in the first edition of San Francisco Celebrated Chefs cookbook, a recipe book featuring 55 Bay Area chefs who are participating in the program.

I revisited some of the shots from that day when retrieving Dan's portrait for the publication. I share a few of these below. Such a beautiful old world Italian-themed space and delicious food!! Congratulations to Dan and Palio 'd Asti!

the Jockey Sandunes in OBX !!

Just got back from the Outer Banks North Carolina, one of my favorite places on earth! The Jockey Sand Ridge in Kitty Hawk is not only the largest dune in North America, but also where the Wright Brothers tested out their very first airplanes!! I love this place.. was so nice to visit

JOCKEY'S RIDGE is the tallest natural sand dune system in the Eastern United States. Located in Nags Head, it is one of the most significant landmarks on the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Always changing, always beautiful…

Art benefit for HAITI details

Hello everyone!

I'd like to invite you to this fantastic art benefit for Haiti this Saturday night.

I spent some time shooting a photo-documentary in Haiti back in 2006, so it is very personal for me to do whatever I can to help. In talking to some of my artist friends here in SF, come to find out there's a LOT we can do! The night will go something like this: Live artist PETE DOOLITTLE will do his thing painting his characters in layers on recycled victorian windows. If you haven't seen his work, this is a must-see. -he's brilliant! he's even inspired Pixar to mimic his style of robot in WALL-E . IAN ROSS will work his magic bringing to life 2 - 3 canvases exploding with energy and color. He specializes in the live-art scene as well as creating huge murals. -LOVE his work. SAN FRANPSYCHO, no joke! will be there as well, donating t-shirts and throwing their usual live-screen-printing party! (so bring a tee for them to tag for ya) These bunch of surf-guys are so creative and fun, it's a party in itself! SIERRA NEVADA is donating a ton of beer to ensure our good time lasts, as there will be raffles throughout the night @ the LOWER HATERS gallery in the Lower Haight. There will also be a live-body-painter RAZIA on the scene to step it up one more notch, as well as donated artworks signed by famous Upper Playground artist MARS-1, PETE DOOLITTLE, and original photography taken in Haiti by myself. djs ROMANOWSKI, SIMILAK CHILD, and OAKLAND FADERS ENKI and PLATURN are all gracious enough to provide the party vibes for the nighti

All proceeds will go to CARE, a non-profit that focuses on educating women in third-world countries as a solution to bringing them out of poverty. Having spent time in Haiti, I've seen how out of balance the country is. CARE believes that empowering women is the key to fighting poverty. I agree strongly with this philosophy and feel that our donations will be used wisely.

In focusing on how we as artists can help in such unfortunate times, it naturally occurred to me to put together a fun event that will not only raise money, but provide a good time for everyone involved, and make some beautiful art to take away from the experience. Please come and share the night with us!!

I ran in to a friend of mine that used to chill with the Haitian ambassador in DC. He used to work with C.A.R.E. They deploy emergency teams to distribute food, hygiene kits,water, and emergency health services. C.A.R.E. has been working in Haiti since 1954. Your donations get to Haiti most efficiently here.

This is a series of aerial shots that I took while flying a charter from Prince Au Prince to Ille A Vache Island, back in 2006. The islands suffered through a tragic earthquake today, which prompted me to revisit some old photos. From the series of hurricanes that blew through the islands in 2008, now this... I can only imagine how different everything must look now. I hope those that touched my life are ok..
